The presentation

Lead is Coreod’s analytical matrix for professionals who manage a team: frontline managers, heads of department, project leads with line responsibility, and middle managers. It is designed for moments when responsibility changes in nature: a first managerial role, a change of team, a step up in workload, a reorganisation, or the start of a management development programme. It maps how management is currently exercised under present pressure, and delivers three actionable outcomes: a description of the leadership practices the manager puts into action, a view of the pressure under which they are exercised, and an evidence-based foundation for dialogue with a team, senior leadership, or a coach.

Lead integrates three psychometric instruments established in scientific research: the Global Transformational Leadership Scale (GTL) (Carless, Wearing & Mann, 2000), administered as a self-report measure, for transformational leadership practices; the PSS-10 (Cohen, Kamarck & Mermelstein, 1983) for perceived stress over the past month; and the Brief COPE (Carver, 1997) for coping strategies.

Its distinctive value lies in synthesis. These dimensions are usually examined separately; the Coreod engine establishes the managerial position among nine by mapping the degree of reported transformational practices against perceived pressure. Coping strategies do not enter the calculation of that position: they shed light on how it is held, and are never converted into a leadership style. The same intensity of practice does not read the same way depending on the pressure under which it is exercised.

Results are interpreted within the participant’s own profile. Leadership practices are those the manager reports; the team’s view is not measured here. The Lead grid thresholds function as internal analytical decision rules. The result is a contextualised map of practices, pressure, coping strategies, and pressure points.

Lead supports management development and high-quality professional dialogue. It is neither a performance appraisal nor a ranking of managers. Health-related questions call for a dedicated clinical assessment. For a reading that includes personality, Executive uses the same three instruments and adds the IPIP-NEO-120.
